Job Overview
The SMS Specialist supports the Operational Safety Team by managing the employee safety reporting system, analyzing safety data, and developing safety content and training. This role focuses on reporting intake, data tracking, and communication with frontline teams.

 

Key Responsibilities

Employee Reporting Program Administration
• Manage and administer the Safety & Event Reporting Program
• Review and assess incoming safety reports and assign for follow-up
• Ensure reporting systems are accessible and functioning
• Maintain communication with employees who submit reports
• Ensure safety data is accurate and complete

Safety Data Analysis & Reporting
• Maintain risk tracking and monitor corrective actions
• Analyze safety data to identify trends
• Build and maintain dashboards and reports
• Prepare reports for leadership on safety performance

Safety Content & Training
• Create safety alerts, training materials, and internal communications
• Support development of training programs and modules
• Assist with internal safety campaigns and awareness initiatives

Safety Assurance & Engagement
• Conduct surveys and checks to assess safety culture
• Support safety committee meetings and track action items
• Assist with audit preparation and documentation

 

Requirements

Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Communications, Operations, or related field
• 2–4 years of experience in a Safety Management System (SMS) environment
• Experience with safety reporting systems and employee engagement
• Experience in data analysis, program administration, or training development
• Knowledge of risk management and safety performance metrics

Skills
• Strong data analysis and reporting skills (Excel/Google Sheets required)
• Ability to create clear written content for training and communication
• Familiarity with software tools such as Google Suite, reporting platforms, and LMS systems
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines

 

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in transportation, aviation, rail, or autonomous technology environments
• Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or Looker
• Experience leading safety programs or initiatives
