Job Overview
We are hiring a Prototype Engineering Technician to support the assembly, servicing, and development of next-generation robotic systems. This hands-on role focuses on building prototype hardware, assembling test platforms, troubleshooting electromechanical systems, and supporting engineering teams developing advanced robotics.
This position is ideal for experienced technicians with backgrounds in robotics, automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, or electromechanical systems who enjoy building, testing, and solving complex technical challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble, repair, and troubleshoot electromechanical systems, robotic platforms, and test fixtures
- Build wiring harnesses, compute systems, and integrate sensors and electronic components
- Own prototype builds from assembly through delivery
- Perform diagnostics, calibration, and root cause analysis on robotic and vehicle systems
- Support hardware integration, testing, and field deployments
- Maintain inventory, lab organization, and workshop operations
- Coordinate procurement of components and manage supplier inventory
- Document assembly procedures and build instructions for repeatability
- Collaborate with engineering teams to improve system reliability and minimize downtime
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in robotics, automotive, electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, or related technical fields
- Experience assembling prototypes, wiring harnesses, and electromechanical systems
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, datasheets, and engineering documentation
- Experience with soldering, crimping, cable management, and electronics assembly
- Experience using 3D printers, diagnostic equipment, and common shop tools
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work onsite and support field integration activities
- Valid U.S. driver's license
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with manual machining, welding, composites, or fabrication
- Automotive repair or vehicle maintenance experience
- Experience building robots, RC vehicles, drones, or Arduino/Raspberry Pi projects
- Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks or Onshape
- Experience with Python or other scripting languages
- Experience working with Linux
- Through-hole (THT) and surface mount (SMT/SMD) PCB soldering experience
- Experience working with LiDAR, radar, cameras, or other autonomous vehicle hardware
- Experience designing and building custom wiring harnesses
