Autonomous Vehicle Body Technician
Job Overview
This position is ideal for experienced automotive technicians with hands-on body shop experience who are detail-oriented, safety-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment around advanced EV and autonomous vehicle technology.
Key Responsibilities
• Assess and document vehicle damage following road incidents or testing activities
• Perform minor on-site repairs and coordinate major repairs with partner service centers
• Conduct scheduled maintenance and inspections, including brakes, fluids, AC, and tires
• Perform light-to-moderate automotive body work, including panel alignment, trim and bumper repair or replacement, mirror and exterior component installation, and cosmetic repairs
• Identify, document, and differentiate cosmetic versus structural body damage
• Support field operations, including vehicle evacuations and towing coordination
• Transport vehicles to and from service appointments, repairs, and car washes
• Maintain fleet and shop cleanliness, readiness, and compliance with safety standards
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and operations teams to return vehicles to service efficiently
• Share body repair best practices with other technicians to promote consistency and quality
Requirements
• Prior experience as an automotive technician with hands-on body shop or exterior repair experience
• Strong mechanical background with familiarity using hand and power tools for body work
• Ability to perform panel fitting, trim and bumper repair or replacement, and exterior component installation
• Experience assessing cosmetic versus structural damage
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Ability to work independently and manage changing priorities
• High attention to detail with a safety-first mindset
• Comfortable working around electric and autonomous vehicle systems
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in shop and outdoor environments
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working with electric vehicles
• Familiarity with sanding, surface preparation, priming, paint touch-ups, or light welding
• Background in fleet, ride-hail, or high-utilization vehicle environments
